Spotlight on the Chairman & Managing Director
Mr. Asif Dadarkar, CMD of Sahara Group of Companies, is a Marine Engineer, having worked as Engineer on Foreign Going Vessels. He joined the family business of marine activities in 1984, and within 5 years took charge and control of the Group companies.
In 1986, he created history by building 3 Flat Top Barges and 6 Towing Tugs at Sewree Mud Flat, with 400 workers working round the clock, and completed almost 1200 MT of steel fabrication in a record time of just 4 months.
Executed the operations of transporting Oversized Dimension Cargo packages (about 300 MT each) from Kolkata to Mirzapur on barges, through Ganges towing with the tugs, against the current.
In 1994 he floated his own new company, Sahara Dredging Limited.
Born in a seafarer’s family and having a background of engineering, he ensured that the business prospered and soon increased multifold due to his hard work and diligence, along with the dedicated staff and workers.
He also contributed and participated in the designing and building of Catamaran, Ocean-going Tugs, barges, dredgers etc over a period of time, all for in-house requirements and utilization.
With the help of the aforesaid self-built equipments, he executed various prestigious dredging works for Government, Major and Minor Ports, Refineries, rivers and private ports also.
Most of the above jobs were time-bound and stipulated heavy penalties, which would scare away our other competitors. He has taken up many challenging works and has delivered the services in time, to the satisfaction of the principal clients.
The secret of his success lies in his direct, on-the-job involvement totally for executing the jobs under his physical presence at site, thereby motivating all other staff working under him.
Initially Mr. Dadarkar used to handle all the activities of the Group Companies himself. Now he has successfully achieved important milestones in his career.
Rock-dredging is the most challenging and difficult form of dredging, which requires greater risk of operation and success. Under his guidance and harder work, the Company executed a mammoth project for Mazagon Dock Limited, under ITD Cementation India Ltd, which saw the company carry out successful rock-dredging of over 1,20,000 Cubic metres.
The Company had also completed successful rock-dredging of over 1,36,000 Cu.m. at Pipavav Jetty for M/s. Ultratech Cement Limited.
In addition, dredging of hard patches i.e. rock-dredging was also being successfully carried out at Dharamtar Channel and Jetty areas for M/s. JSW Dharamtar Port Pvt. Ltd at Dharamtar, having completed successful rock-dredging of quantity of more than 2,50,000 Cu.m.
Very recently, the Company completed a major Capital Dredging Contract for Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust by carrying out dredging of over 2,00,000 Cu.m. of Rock and 1,75,000 Cu.m. of Silt in the Coastal Berth area of JNPT.
Having firmly established his dredging company as the best in India, by achieving the desired levels in terms of volume and turnover of silt and rock-dredging with the vast fleet of owned equipments, Mr. Dadarkar Is now concentrating more in the Rock-Dredging and Cutter Suction dredging. These areas have much greater potential in India and abroad.
Mr. Dadarkar will soon be completing the in-house fabrication of a Cutter Suction Dredger having capacity to dredge 600 Cubic metres of silt per hour at a discharge distance of 1km.
